sometimes i think that i spent months of my life staring at the phone waiting for it to ring.
occasionally picking it up to make sure that noone knocked it off the hook, and then thinking that you were calling right when i picked it up and it was busy.
and then trying to convince myself that the possibility of you calling while i was checking for a dialtone gives me enough reason to call your house again and see if you are home.
and staring at every button, feeling them, pressing them (while the phone is still on the hook), wondering what was wrong with the letters Q and Z.
discovering that if you press 2, 5, 8, and 0 on my portable phone, it turns it off so that you have to unplug the battery to make it work again.
i'm glad i don't havr to stare at the phone any longer. and i hope whereever you are now, your phone has some nice buttons too. because it's going to be a long wait.
